Six kinds of tour from Antigua

People use "Antigua tour" for very different things. A one-hour walk through a coffee farm and a night at almost 4,000 m have little in common except the pickup point. Before you compare prices, decide which type you want. The table sums them up, and the sections after it give the details.

Operators publish their own prices, and these change from season to season. The figures below are the ones published for 2026 at the time of writing, in the currency the operator uses. Volcano tours also depend on volcanic activity, so a listed date is not a promise that the trail is open.

Fuego

Some operators advertise trekking on Fuego. An advertisement is not a clearance by the authorities. On 1 October 2026 CONRED warned against staying on the Fuego meseta because of ballistic material. Read the Fuego page before you consider any such offer.

What to check before you book

The descriptions differ more than the prices do.

What the price includes

The Acatenango package above leaves out the entry fee, and other operators may bundle it. Ask whether park or community entry, meals, gear and transport are in the price, and what a guide costs if it is separate.

Entry fee splits

The municipality of Acatenango publishes Q100 for foreign visitors. Some operators describe that amount as Q50 for Acatenango and Q50 for Alotenango. Ask your operator which fees are included, so you do not pay twice.

A licensed guide

Germany's Foreign Office advises volcano trips only with police or licensed guides. Choose an operator that names its guides and its safety plan.

The volcano status

On 4 August 2026 police guarded the entrance to Acatenango to stop ascents during an eruptive phase. Ask what happens to your booking if a trail closes, and whether you can change the date.

Cold and altitude

Pack warm layers and wind protection for Acatenango, where nights can be near 0 °C. At Hobbitenango the operator warns of sudden rain, cold and altitude symptoms.

Pickup and timing

Check where and when you are collected, and whether a hotel pickup is included. Allow extra time for traffic, because journey times on this page are rough guides.
