Hobbitenango at a glance
Hobbitenango lies in the hills at Vuelta Grande, about 25 minutes from Antigua by road. It is open every day from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Visitors buy a day pass that covers entry, the transfer from the parking lot to the park entrance, games and viewpoints. The operator also offers overnight stays, with separate terms.
Travel time depends on traffic and weather, so treat 25 minutes as a rough guide. This page is an independent guide and is not run by the park. The images on this page show the landscape around Antigua.

Getting to Hobbitenango from Antigua
You have two simple options. The first is the operator's shuttle from its office at 3a Avenida Norte 20A in Antigua. Arrive 30 minutes before your booked departure. The second is a private ride or your own vehicle to Vuelta Grande, then the park's transfer from the parking lot to the entrance.
The shuttle schedule is described differently in two places. The day pass page lists uphill rides from 8:00 to 10:00 am and from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The terms list departures at 8:00, 10:00 am, 12:00 noon, 2:00 and 4:00 pm. Return rides in the terms are at 9:00, 11:00 am, 1:00, 3:00, 5:00 and 6:00 pm, depending on available seats. Do not plan around a noon departure until the operator confirms it for your date.
Weather and what to pack
The operator itself warns about sudden rain, cold and altitude symptoms.
Sudden rain
Showers can arrive quickly in the mountains. Bring a light rain jacket, even if Antigua is sunny when you leave.
Cold
It is cooler up in the hills than in town, especially in the morning and late afternoon. Pack a warm layer.
Altitude
Some people feel headaches or tiredness at height. Drink water, walk slowly and rest if you feel unwell.
Games and rules
The park has games and viewpoints. Follow the rules and the instructions of the staff at each game, as the operator requires.
Staying overnight
If you want to stay at Hobbitenango, note the terms of the operator. Check-in runs from 1:00 to 6:00 pm and check-out from 8:00 to 11:00 am. The operator asks for 100 percent payment in advance, and advance payments are not refundable. Local taxes are charged on site in addition. These terms apply only to the product described there.
A stay up here means extra travel planning, because Hobbitenango is a drive from the historic center and not a short walk. If you want to be near the sights, see our page on where to stay in Antigua.
